This is most likely because your web host is not allowing outgoing connections. There is a setting in the admin panel to turn off link checking.

i have installed the YALD with succes and all works fine i also made own template and chanced the directory.php to index.php now the only thing is that nobody can't add links
the error message comes

You'll probably need to write a script to import the data unless the data from your other table is extremely similar.

id - the ID of the category
name - category name
parent - if the category is a sub category of another category, this is the parent category. for a top level category, this should be 0
lft - ignore this when doing the import
rgt - ignore this when doing the import
date - a conventional unix timestamp indicating when the category was created. from what I remember, this is not really too important so you can just set it to all 0's or null if you don;t have this available in your other database

All the other fields can be ignored when doing the import but MAKE SURE you leave the root category entry in there or nothing will work.

Once you have all the data imported, I believe you just need to add a top level category using the YALD admin panel. This will populate the "lft", "rgt" and "path" fields so that the categories will display properly.

Post back if you have any problems

It looks like php is not able to connect to mysql (your username, password or database name is incorrect). Make sure your mysql settings are correct and that you installed the database tables.

Give sqlguy's code a try and backup the file in case it doesn't work. As for the ereg issue, I honestly had no idea it was deprecated in 5.3 but I don't think there are too many instances of it in the code.

This might be beyond your php ability, but here is a guide to convert the ereg to preg_match. [devthought.com]

Essentially you just need to change the beginning and ending delimiters on the pattern. Post here if you have a problem and I'll look at it.

Importing Categories via MySQL

I have a good size list of categories that I need to import, instead of creating each one at a time. I noticed that most of the fields are set to "not null." Most everything in there is self explanitory, except for two fields: lft and rgt

What are these fields for?

Is there a recommended way for importing? I created a few sample categories and exported, to see the structure:

Yes this is actually a bug that I am aware of. I did a custom fix for someone a few years ago but never merged it into the main code.

The fix is not extremely complicated but it would take me some digging to figure it out again. Basically, it has to do with the way the inputs are sanitized when they are inserted into the query that updates/creates the table row, along with the way they are retrieved and the way they are printed out into the html. If you want to get it fixed quickly the best advice I can give you at the moment is to post a project on a site such as rentacoder.com, elance.com, scriptlance.com, etc.

I really hope you did not "purchase" free software!

I would suggest you do this using simple CSS.

Just assign a class the the LI and UL elements in the directory.html template, then link the associated CSS stylesheet in header.html.

The issue also affects the other fields: For example a user suggests a new link and uses special characters in the text, then those are broken in the admin backend and must be re-entered there.

Do you have any solution for that?

Hello,

I hope to resolve an issue that I believe is related to how the Smarty template renders output. i.e. directory.php is what loads (see url) however it pulls from smarty and html in header.html, directory.html etc.

I have a form system that is being integrated using YALD. From one page you will enter your name and email, then proceed into the directory. Each directory listing is an checkbox that can be selected.

My problem is I cannot get the session to carry forward. i.e. if user inputs their name, it should be carried over until the user submits or session times out. I am currently using Jquery cookie plugin (home page)

I have determined that the YALD software and how everything works within Smarty has something to do with why I can't get this to work properly. Even if I simply refresh a page it will not remember the input.

Note: I have successfully set this up on the same sever on a test page independent of YALD.

My YALD is under development and behind a password. I cannot share location yet.

International Characters

Hello,

I purchased the YALD Directory script about 1-2 years ago. When I add categories with special characters such as vowels (Ä, ä, Ü, ü, Ö, ö, ß) in German, these are not supported. What do I need to do to use these characters?

I already changed the charset for the name & path field in categories table to "utf8_general_ci". The characters are correctly displayed in the directory but the category links aren't working.

I highly appreciate any solution for this issue. Many thanks!

Feature Request - links break into columns Smarty

Hello, loving YALD for a project where I must index a ton of links.

In generating a long list of links, I would like the results to break into 2 or 3 columns. I know there is probably Smarty method but I cannot find info on this elsewhere.

Anyone else setup this functionality?

You need to check the apache error log to see exactly what the error is. I assume you are trying to use URL rewrites and mod-rewrite is not installed on the server you are running YALD. If this is the case, then you either need to ask your host about having mod-rewrite enabled/installed or switch to a different host to take advantage of this feature.

Your first issue can be solved by running the following query. This can be run through PHPMyAdmin or a similar tool.

delete from `[your yald links table name]` where approved="false"

As for the 3rd item, you can insert this code in any of the templates if you just want to do a simple include:

Make the include path in the above code relative to the root directory of YALD. Unfortunately, this method will not work if the include file needs to be parsed before being included.

Can you just install YALD in a different folder such as directory.garden01.com/links/directory.php? Or is that not an option? That will fix your problem and allow you to avoid similar problems.

One of the best scripts I've installed on one of my many websites I run, but got a few suggestions for improvements....

1) Add a "clear pending links" button, as I currently can't access the "approve links page" bit on my installation at the moment, throws up a "Error 500 - Internal server error", which I'm guessing is something to do with the 847 pending links showing in the Stats (already tried clearing the database manually once, but it's a task akin to painting the Forth Bridge).

2) "Category Description" option

3) Banner rotation in the header & footer - already tried getting it to work with an old one I'd almost forgotten about I had lurking on my webspace for one of my earlier websites that involved sticking an SSI tag in the footer, but was foiled by the need to change the footer file to .shtml format.
